What is Salajeet? This is the word used to describe the dried plant of the Salvia divinorum plant which is extracted and used in salve and tea and used by the traditional healers for curing many ailments.

Salajeet or Mumiji is an oily blackish brown powder or blackish exudate obtained from high altitude mountains, usually found in the Himalayas, Tibet, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Mongolia, Gudong, India and in the northern part of Chile. It is said that this substance is very useful in treating various forms of arthritis, rheumatism, skin ulcers and many others. However, there are many debates regarding the usefulness of this substance. Some believe that it helps cure such diseases; some say that it is not as effective as the drugs and that it causes some side effects.

It is said that Salajeet is very useful in treating and curing certain form of kidney diseases, cancer, respiratory problems, insomnia, cough, diarrhea, vomiting, toothaches and other such problems. There are different ways of using Salajeet and one of them is the use of tea. The extract is usually applied on the affected area and then tea is made in a cup and given to the patient.

Some of the people claim that Salajeet is very useful in treating asthma, eczema, rheumatism and arthritis. There are several methods of extracting Salajeet, but one of the most popular is the method of steam distillation.

Salajeet is not just extracted from Salvia divinorum but other materials are also used in this process. Salvinin is a plant from the Salvia genus. The essential oil is obtained from this plant and is mixed with some alcohol and then is boiled in water. it will produce Salajeet which is used in different form and is very useful as an antiseptic.

Salajeet is known to have the same properties and benefits of certain forms of Ayurvedic medicines and hence its use as medicine has been limited. However, the main advantage of Salajeet is that it can be taken as tea. instead of having to use the oil.
